Elisa Rungger
Elisa Rungger is living and working between Selva di Val Gardena (IT), where she first attended the Art Lyceum specializing in Visual Arts, and Karlsruhe (D), where she is studying Fine Arts at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe in the class of Prof. Franz Ackermann since 2019.
Elisa’s work is based on the human perception of reality that ultimately raises questions about what reality is and that there are uncountable dimensions to it. Elisa wants to arise the question of how we perceive reality. How do we explore what surrounds us? Inviting the viewer to think about sensory perceptions towards a reality that is often influenced by psychological ulterior motives, morals and norms of society, identity or media. Her works have an open-ended breadth of possible interpretations which is a key aspect of Elisa’s work. They are less a statement but a thought-provoking stimulus. Is it a dream, a memory, do we create our reality, or is it the same for all?
Elisa is choosing true-to-life motifs in everyday and familiar situations that we can relate to by selecting lifelike photographs that she distorts throughout a chemical process. Those precisely distorted photographs are later the inspiration and template for Elisa’s delicate oil paintings. By playing with the degree of distortion the blurry characters and interiors vary from being naturalistic up to almost unrecognizable and amorphous. The level of abstraction underlines different aspects that Elisa wants to point out. - A thought-provoking journey through the dimensions of reality.
